Agricultural Economics graduate Bermudez elected 2011 Association Chair The Association of Former Students announced the officers and new members of its 2011 Board of Directors. These individuals were elected at the Fall Leadership Council Meeting and, starting Jan. 1, will represent the more than 500,000 members of the worldwide Aggie Network. Jorge A. Bermudez ’73 will serve as the 2011 Chair of the Board with Otway B. Denny, Jr. ’71 as Chair Elect and S. Shariq Yosufzai ’74 as Immediate Past Chair. Outstanding Agricultural Alumni Honored A veterinarian, an entrepreneur and a rancher have been named as 2010 Texas A&M University’s College of Agriculture and Life Science Outstanding Alumni. Dr. Charles Graham of Elgin, Joe Swinbank of Houston and Bob McCan of Victoria were honored Oct. 28 with a reception in The Zone Club at Kyle Field on campus. ![]() Businesses make A&M proud. Brandon Spears, a 1992 A&M graduate, Agricultural Economics major and owner of Republic Landscapes, recently won the Aggie 100 award. His company took the No.2 spot on the annual list of the fastest growing businesses owned, operated, or founded by Aggies. "You don't have to do some grand thing to be successful," said Spears, 38. October is rural agricultural cooperatives month and Texas cooperatives contribute to the creation of more than $1.7 billion in annual sales and 20,000 jobs, according to a Texas AgriLife Extension Service economist. "Cooperatives are user-owned businesses," said Dr. John Park, AgriLife Extension economist and Roy B. Davis professor of agricultural cooperation at Texas A&M University. "Many are found in the agriculture sector and often represent the core of the rural economy." Cooperative members democratically select a group of directors from among themselves to determine policies for the business, Park said. Danny Klinefelter, a Texas AgriLife Extension Service economist and professor in the department of agricultural economics at Texas A&M, has received the 2010 Distinguished Service Award from the American Agricultural Editors Association. Klinefelter received the award for work with producers in agricultural finance and management development. He is the director of The Executive Program for Agricultural Producers and serves as the executive secretary for the Association of Agricultural Production Executives. more... |

At the AAEA Annual Joint Conference the following awards were presented to our faculty and staff: Kerry Litzenberg, excellence in teaching over ten year; Steven Klose, Joe Outlaw, Jonathan Baros, Candice Foster, DeDe Jones, Greg Kaase, Natalie Outlaw, Jeff Pate, Wade Polk, Patrick Warminski, Jay Yates, and Mac Young, excellence in extendion group; Curtis Lard, Eagle Award in recognition of his lifetime of professional service to students, the Department and the profession. John Park received the 2010 WAEA Undergraduate Teaching Award for less than 10 years. Mark Welch was recognized as the Premier Forecaster in the General Economics Category by the Extension Section of AAEA for 2009-2010. This is especially noteworthy since Dr. Welch won the Premier Forecaster Award in the “Grain” category last year. |
